Winter Tips From the Highway Department

With winter soon approaching, the Highway Department is asking that all residents keep these tips in mind during inclement weather.

■ Avoid parking along Township roads when snow storms are anticipated.

■ Residents are required to move vehicles when a snow emergency is declared.

■ Property owners are requested to clear the areas around fire hydrants to ensure adequate fire protection.

■ When clearing your driveway, shovel the snow on the lower side of the driveway, so that the plow doesn't push it back into the area you have already shoveled (see figure)

■ The Highway Department will take responsibility for damaged mailboxes only when the damage is caused by the plow not snow weight (see policy at right).

2011 Mailbox Policy

■ Residents will have 14 business days in which to notify the Township.

■ The Township will decide if reimbursement will be issued based on their assessment of the damages.

■ Resident will provide the administrative staff with a receipt.

■ Reimbursement shall not exceed $20.00.
