[Crime Watch] [Snow Removal] [Classifieds] [What's New] SNOW REMOVAL 2007 Township Snow Removal
Policy
As our township road crew is preparing to salt, cinder and plow the 60 miles of township roads that it is responsible for, we wanted to remind residents that this is a huge task for our road crew and with a small amount of cooperation between the road crew and the residents of Lower Windsor Township, the removal of the snow and ice should proceed smoothly and safely. 1. Ordinance 94-8, prohibits parking on designated township roadways when the accumulation of snow reaches 3 inches or more (these roads are marked as "emergency snow routes"). Persons in violation of this ordinance are guilty of a summary offense and subject to a fine. (Please note, that even though they may be designated as "emergency snow routes", this does not imply that they will be the first roads to be cleared.) While parking may not be prohibited on other township roadways, all parked vehicles should be moved from along the roadway. This not only makes it easier for the road crew to plow, it also does not leave a pile of snow lingering on the road when the vehicle is eventually moved. 2. Snowplow trucks are used to improve the road conditions for the motoring public during wintry weather, so please give some consideration to the road crew by giving them the space needed to do their job. These trucks do a lot of backing up and turning around, especially when clearing intersections, so please, for everyone's safety, slow down and keep clear of these trucks. If you are following a truck too closely, it is highly likely that the driver cannot see you, therefore possibly posing the risk for an accident and/or injury. 3. Numerous people complain that the snowplow pushes snow back into their driveways after they have already cleared them. Unfortunately, there is really nothing that the snowplow driver can do to avoid this nuisance. To avoid clearing your driveway twice, please try and wait until the snowplow truck has finished cleaning your roadway. Please keep in mind, that most of the roads in the township, need 3 or 4 passes with the plow before they are considered "open". 4. Occasionally, accidents will happen. If you have damage that is done by the snowplow truck, such as a mailbox destroyed or you receive damage to your lawn or driveway, please contact the township office and we will try and make it right. However, in the case of the mailbox damage, the township only accepts responsibility if the mailbox is struck by the snowplow or truck itself, not for damage done by the snow being pushed off of the plow. Hopefully with this information and everyone's cooperation, it will help make this season's wintry weather a bit more manageable and less frustrating. |
